Shiatsu Energy Flow
A deeply relaxing and restorative healing art from Japan.
What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is a holistic therapy rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and guided by the ancient philosophies of Yin and Yang, the Five Elements, and the Meridian system. These meridians are energy channels through which Ki (also known as Chi or Qi), the body’s universal life force, flows in a continuous loop to support and activate the body, mind and spirit.
A Shiatsu treatment uses touch and assessment of the life force that circulates throughout the body in the 8 Extraordinary Vessels and 12 Meridians that run along both sides of the body, front and back, along which are some 400 energy points or Tsubos.
An experienced practitioner can sense where energy is depleted, blocked or out of balance, and helps restore natural harmony. The result is often a profound sense of relaxation, renewal, and inner balance - supporting both physical and emotional wellbeing.
Each treatment is a unique and enjoyable experience, tailored to your specific needs and what your body is communicating on the day.
What to Expect
Our Shiatsu treatments are carried out by Kathy McKee. Kathy’s extensive training and intuitive touch create a safe, nurturing environment where deep healing and relaxation can unfold naturally. She is one of the few highly trained shiatsu therapists in Belfast and Northern Ireland.
A Shiatsu session lasts approximately one hour and takes place fully clothed.
• At the start of your appointment, there will be time to discuss your needs and focus areas.
• The session itself involves gentle touch, pressure, and movement techniques to support energy balance.
• At the end, Kathy allows time for integration and grounding before you leave the space.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing such as leisurewear or yoga-style garments that allow for free movement.
Training and Professional Standards
Shiatsu practitioners undergo comprehensive professional training at an accredited school, completing a minimum of 1,000 hours of study and hands-on practice over three years, followed by rigorous assessment to obtain their diploma and practising certificate.
