Detox, Relax and Rejuvenate with Infrared therapy

Infrared sauna therapy uses gentle waves of infrared heat to raise your core body temperature, supporting detoxification, pain relief, and relaxation at a deeper level than traditional saunas. It’s ideal for those who want the health benefits of heat therapy without the high humidity and intense heat of steam saunas.

At Belfast Chiropractic Clinic, our private far infrared sauna suite is designed for your comfort and recovery.

What to Expect

You'll sit in the infrared sauna cabin for 20–40 minutes while enjoying gentle warmth and quiet relaxation. We provide water, towels, and recommendations for post-session hydration and support. Infrared Sauna – Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is an infrared sauna and how is it different from a traditional sauna?

An infrared sauna uses infrared light to heat your body directly rather than heating the air around you. This allows for a deeper sweat at lower temperatures (typically 40–60°C), making it more comfortable for many people.

2. What are the benefits of using an infrared sauna?

Reported benefits include:

  • Detoxification through deep sweating
  • Relaxation and stress relief
  • Improved circulation
  • Muscle recovery and pain relief
  • Skin cleansing and rejuvenation

Support for the immune and lymphatic systems

3. What should I wear in the sauna?

You can wear light, breathable clothing (like swimwear or gym wear). The goal is to let your skin breathe and sweat freely.

4. How long is a typical session?

Sessions typically last 25–40 minutes. If it’s your first time, we may recommend starting with a 15–20 minute session to allow your body to adjust.

5. Is it safe for everyone?

Infrared saunas are safe for most people, but not recommended for:

  • Children under 18
  • Pregnant women
  • Those with severe/uncontrolled cardiovascular conditions, heat sensitivity, or certain chronic illnesses

Always consult your GP if you have any medical concerns or use devices like pacemakers.

6. How should I prepare for a session?

  • Stay well hydrated
  • Avoid heavy meals or alcohol before your session
  • Remove any metal jewellery
  • Arrive clean, with no lotions or perfumes on the skin

7. What should I do after a session?

  • Rehydrate with water or electrolytes
  • Use a towel or refreshing wipe to remove sweat
  • Shower within 30–60 minutes to wash off toxins released through the skin
  • Take it easy—your body has just done some internal work!

8. How often should I use an infrared sauna?

This varies per person. Many clients benefit from 2–3 sessions per week. For specific health goals (e.g., detox, pain management), more frequent use may be appropriate—always start gradually.

9. Can I bring my phone or read inside?

Yes, but be cautious: electronic devices can overheat. We offer a built-in sound system if you'd like to listen to music, a podcast, or a guided meditation. Reading a book is also welcome.

10. Can I shower after I sauna?

We recommend waiting 30–60 minutes before showering after your infrared sauna session. This gives your body time to continue cooling down naturally and allows the detoxification process to finish. Infrared therapy stimulates deep sweating, and your body may continue to perspire gently even after you exit the sauna—this is part of your body’s natural detox and thermoregulation response.

We do not have shower facilities onsite, but we provide soft towels and natural cleansing wipes to help you dry off and freshen up immediately after your session. Many sauna practitioners and health professionals advise waiting to shower so that sweat-bound toxins aren’t reabsorbed through open pores, and to avoid abrupt disruption of the beneficial parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) state induced by the sauna.
Staying hydrated and relaxing after your session helps amplify the circulatory, metabolic, and detox benefits of the sauna. Aim to shower within an hour, ideally using natural soap and lukewarm water.
