Advanced expertise in Chiropractic & Cranio-Sacral Therapy for Children & Pregnant women

Anne Matthews is an Independent Practitioner/Chiropractor with 31 years clinical experience. Her professional background includes Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, Biomechanics, Cranio-sacral Technique, Counselling together with Neuro-developmental training and Pre and Peri-natal education. She set up the Belfast Chiropractic Clinic in 1986. Her patient base consists predominately that of children and pregnant women. Her passion is in working with children as a Pre & Perinatal Educator, which is highlighted by her understanding of the adverse effects of birth trauma as expressed by the baby/child with special and emotional needs. She also offers practical support and guidance to parents.

Anne has been committed to Continuing Professional Development throughout her professional life, both on a personal basis and for other like-minded chiropractors. She was the coordinator of the N.Ireland Chiropractic Post-Graduate Education from 1986 to 1994 and sat on the Executive Council of the British Chiropractic Council (BCA) 1992 -1995.  Between 1994-2000 she travelled several times a year to the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC), Bournemouth as an external examiner for the Chiropractic Degree courses.  Anne has been a Fellow of the College of Chiropractors since 2003, in recognition of her outstanding commitment to the chiropractic profession in the UK.

Anne first graduated with a Degree in Physiotherapy, 1982 and her instinctive drive to develop her palpatory skills directed her towards signing up for another 4-year full-time course. She graduated as a Chiropractor from AECC and returned to her native Belfast in 1986 as the first female chiropractor in N.Ireland. Initially, she built up her chiropractic practice from scratch from her parents’ home before setting up the Belfast Chiropractic Clinic in 1988.

Anne’s interest in body biomechanics motivated her to complete a post-graduate diploma in Biomechanics at Stratclyde University in 1993. All of her chiropractic education together with the hundreds of hours of CPD she has undertaken over the past 31 years has been self-funded, and such is the long-term vision Anne has had to develop and fine-tune her palpatory skills and expertise in helping her patients/clients respond to her particular holistic chiropractic treatment and management style.  Her compilation of skills includes the integration of basic chiropractic techniques; massage and fascial release techniques; cranio-sacral technique;  rehabilitation and neurodevelopmental exercises; Pre and Peri-natal education; Baby Body Language – Therapy; and counselling.

On the home front, she was the co-founder of Cedar Integrated Primary School, Crossgar which opened in 1995 and she contributed actively to the schools’ Board of Governors 1995-2003.

But Anne’s greatest achievement of all, about which she is immensely proud, is being the mother of 3 children – Jacinta, Michael and Tim. As a full time working single mum she has organised her personal and working life around their schooling and their extra-curricular activities whilst also both supporting and facilitating them to progress to university and beyond.
